Challenge Accepted

Alisan Miller

For my mathematically inclined husband, I chose this Penrose inspired design. While not a strict Penrose tiling, which incorporates only two shapes, it utilizes Penrose shapes and characteristic five fold rotational symmetry. Hand piecing allowed for stitching on flights, in a backyard in Normandy, overlooking the Tetons, and on a terrace with views of CatalinaContinue reading “Challenge Accepted

Mobius in Greens

JOANN MURDOCK

Created in the first of two workshops with Marjolein Dallinga, I went home and re-worked this piece a little bit after the second workshop. There is always something new to learn.

Contemplation

JOANN MURDOCK

A long and contemplative process, this large and living composition was created over a period of several weeks, where I allowed the fiber to speak to me during the fertile resting spaces between the hands-on. I found a sense of comfort in allowing the creative work to … become.

Tranquility

JOANN MURDOCK

Inspiration from this landscape comes from a mural in a McDonald’s fast food joint. Re-interpreted the image in wool and mulberry paper (Thai kozo paper). Silk fabric provides a feeling of wind and movement, and the use of cream colored mulberry paper takes it beyond black and white. Tranquility. Serenity. Calm. Quietude. Peace.

Red White and Black Squared

Patricia Niffenegger

The maker of the 8 red-framed small squares is unknown. The squares appeared in my stash and play nicely with other black/white fabrics I found. Long arm quilter: Quilter’s Heaven quilt shop, Northbrook, IL

Fan-tastic

Cheryl Paras

This piece is the result of a class I took with Edrene Heiss called Kaleidoscope Fans, using fabric with bilateral symmetry

It’s about how trees communicate with one another. It’s about love, gritty determination, and hope. Mostly, it’s an indictment against careless excess. I haveContinue reading “So Much Wasted
