Embellished Coat

Nona C Flores

Embroidery, sashiko, boro, yo-yos. I purchased this coat with the intent to embellish it, but didn’t really get the motivation until Lisa Binkley’s “Beyond Boro” NSNG class in November 2022. Embellishments are original designs. The coat was made by Susan Eastman.

Glued raw edge applique. Longarm quilting by Sue DiVarco. Original design from my photo taken at the Morton Arboretum. Started Sept 2022 in a class with Susan Carlson at Woodland Ridge. One classmate said “his eyes follow you around the room”. Longarm quilted by Sue DiVarco.

Tea for Two

The song “Tea for Two” was written by Vincent Youmans for the musical “No, No, Nanette”. Patterns for cups and teapot from a collage design by Laura Heine. (Raw-edge fused applique, machine quilted.) (1st Place in the IQI Challenge competition)

Shredder

Machine pieced/machine quilted. This quilt was juried into the “Words Matter” exhibit at the Art Center, Highland Park, in summer 2021.    

Easter Morning 2020

Machine pieced, raw-edge fused applique,  long arm quilted. I completed this quilt top on Easter morning 2020. The design is “Towards the Sun” by Robin Pickens. Sue DiVarco designed and completed the longarm quilting.

Rubbings and stencilled images using ShivaPaintstiks; machine quilted. Swarovskicrystal embellishments. I did most of the center panel during an on-line class with Shelly Stokes on Paintstiktechniques.
