Hawaiian Applique #3Helen Downie
Machine appliqué – fused, blanket stitch, machine quilted. All went well until the end – not enough fabric for the borders! Good friend, Deb Szott, sacrificed one of her lovely muumuus to finish this quilt!! Talk about real friendship!! We call Debbie Cimaglio’s quilting “Tiny Bubbles” for Don Ho!
Hawaiian Applique #4Helen Downie
Machine appliqué fused. Machine quilting. Leftovers from Hawaiian Appliqué #3 made this quilt a natural – but done in a more contemporary fabric & feeling. Donna Derstadt’s “Tiny Bubbles” quilting (thanks, Don Ho) continues the theme and enhances the quilt.
No Passion for PurpleHelen Downie

Great Wall – FragmentHelen Downie
Machine pieced by Helen Downie. Machine quilted by Deb Ramsey. A huge stack of Oriental fabric strips was the inspiration for this quilt. The ease of construction was another point in its favor. The biggest plus – it was a lot of fun to make! Note the lovely Oriental-style border quilted by Deb Ramsey.
The MigraineHelen Downie
Machine paper piecing, machine appliqué. A fascinating pattern – easy to piece but difficult to put together well. The title says it all. Machine quilted by Paula Rostkowski.
The GrangeHelen Downie
Machine pieced by Helen Downie. Machine quilted by Deb Ramsey. A fascination with the Pine Burr or Japanese Puzzle pattern encouraged a tryout with leftover green and orange fabrics (‘Grange’). The results were better than expected, and Deb Ramsey’s beautiful quilting really enhances this smaller quilt.

Wild ImaginationHelen Downie
Machine pieced borders, machine quilted. I framed this Laurel Burch panel just for the sheer fun of it, and sent it off to Deb Ramsey to play with. Her exquisite quilting – check out those tiny circles in the white areas – make this piece very special.
Not-So-Shy VioletHelen Downie
Machine pieced. Machine quilted by Deb Cimaglio. This quilt is a gift for my dear friend Deb Szott – a special thank-you for all her caring and kindness. Deb is completely in the dark about this – finding the quilt here will be quite a surprise! Love you, Deb, and Merry Christmas!
Mixed BouquetHelen Downie
Machine pieced. Machine quilted by Deb Cimaglio. Remember when “posies” were the rage? Made the blocks and the time finally came to o something with them. Notice Deb Cimaglio’s beautiful quilting – it certainly ‘makes’ the quilt.
HarlequinHelen Downie
Machine pieced. Machine quilted by Deb Cimaglio. Almost all the fabrics in a collection of black-and-whites were used in this quilt patterned after the fancy dress of Court Jesters and Harlequins. Super quilting by Deb Cimaglio.
Pomegranate #1Sylvia Dresser
Fuse hand dyed fabric, embellished with beads and hand embroidery. I have always loved pomegranates. Symbolic in many cultures, they are also now said to have health benefits. My mouth waters at the sight of this one!
