Declaration of Intent

Patricia Tamandl Niffenegger

Fused, machine pieced, machine quilted. Although Emile Zola (1840-1902) was a French novelist, not a visual artist, I found this quote inspirational in making my textile pieces. My work reflects a love of bright, saturated colors, words as part of the design and a mix of fabric and techniques.

Colour and Light I

Valerie Rodelli

Guatemalan & American fabrics, machine quilted and pieced. This piece shows color and design elements. Note secondary designs and depth created by ombre and striped materials. Loosing woven fabrics created a “piecing challenge.”

Yum, Bugs!Cecilia

Rotter

Machine appliqué and quilting; beading. Won first place in the quilt category of the IQI 2006-7 challenge: “Food, Glorious Food”

Vest of Many colors

Birgit B. Scott

Hand-knitted, with crocheted surface embellishment. I love playing with colors and different textures. When the idea for this vest came to me, I dove into my stash and gathered all the yarns I liked. There was no problem with gauge, because I used garter stitch and kniited on the diagonal with the same.

Diamonds

Amy Spungen

Machine pieced and quilted. Owned by Holly and Paul Gladd of Potomac, Maryland I designed this quilt using scraps from another project. They appear there as diamond shapes. All the other material came from my fabric stash.
