Fabric collage using cottons, batiks, hand dyed fabrics, fabric pens and pencils. Started in a class two years ago with Sandra Mollen. This quilt was a true labor of love.

Skimming the coral reef

Hand embroidered using wools, cottons, silk and mohair threads. Many natural elements were used including, shells, starfish, driftwood, coral, oysters, fish skeleton, several varieties of fresh water pearls. Antique, vintage linens and lace were repurposed. Stitched on a vintage wooden skimboard.

Indian Summer

Fabric background, overpainted with watercolor. Hand embroidered trees and foliage. Cotton, wool, cashmere and silk threads were used to create the scenery.

Save the Whales

Hundreds of thousands of whales and other sea animals are trapped in nets every year. Once entangled they will likely perish. Yarn couched and quilted by Sue Daurio. (Paper pieced, machine applique, yarn couched, machine quilted. Made using cottons and silks, vintage doily and wool threads.)

A Bleached Coral Reef

The circular design indicates life, the infinite, the eternal. This represents a bleached coral reef, Dead and dying due to climate change, water quality, overfishing, coastal development and human neglect. We must protect our oceans. (Heavily hand embroidered with natural elements. Many textured threads, velvets, antique lace, tatting, vintage linens, pearls, shells.)

Coral reefs are under relentless stress. Climate change, overfishing, pollution and human interference are causing them to die. They protect land from storms, shield coastlines, they house marine life and naturally clean waters. It is critical we save our reefs. (Heavily hand embroidered with multiple thread types including velvets, beads, stones.)
