Machine pieced, applique, embellished with cheese cloth, tulle, small shells and beads sewn on by hand. Machine quilted. I lived near Lake Michigan for 25 years and loved walking on the beach and picking up beach glass treasures.

Background machine pieced, fused applique, hand stitching. I developed this in a Valerie Goodwin workshop called “Favorite Places”. Florence was a honeymoon destination with my husband. I was nearly 41 when we married and we weren’t sure if we could have a family. Our first daughter was born 9 months later!

Machine and hand applique. Based on a Pinterest photo of fall leaves and red berries. Rather than try to re-createthe actual color variations of the leaves, I used different fabrics and changed thered berries to blue!

Machine pieced background; machine appliqued vase and flowers. I have a good supply of floral upholstery fabrics, so I decided to make a flowerarrangement with them.

Machine pieced background; hand appliqued elements; hand embroidery. Developed during a Heidi Parkes workshop, I was inspired by all the decaying barns evident all over the Midwest. 

Hand dyed “paper cloth” for background, machine appliqued; hand embroidered. I would see these beautiful colors in the early morning of winter as the sun started to come up.     

Machine pieced, fused applique, machine quilted. This piece is inspired by a newspaper photograph of Frank Gehry’s residential high rise building in New York City. I was fascinated by all the undulating curves and by the vertical flat sections that seemed to be like rivers running up the sides of the structure.
