Joomchi paper lantern, made using multiple layers of mulberry paper. A layer of pinhole lace is supported by additional layers of mulberry paper laminated with larger lace openings. Joomchi string is lightly stitched, with beading, to encircle the lantern with a vining embrace.

Inspiration from this landscape comes from a mural in a McDonald’s fast food joint. Re-interpreted the image in wool and mulberry paper (Thai kozo paper). Silk fabric provides a feeling of wind and movement, and the use of cream colored mulberry paper takes it beyond black and white. Tranquility. Serenity. Calm. Quietude. Peace.
