Fireworks Across a Cobalt Sky

Roberta Levin

One Block Wonder, machine piecing, machine quilted by Roberta Levin It has been said that quilters “take fabric, cut it up, and sew it back together”. This is completely true of this quilt, which was made with just one piece pf fabric cut up into triangles and sewn back together.

For the Love of Fabric

Roberta Levin

Machine pieced, machine quilted by Roberta Levin (hand-guided long arm) Why do I love to make quilts? It’s about three things – color, fabric & texture. This quilt makes me happy in all three categories, but on this one the floral fabric was my inspiration.

Caterpillar Bravely Crosses the Sea

Roberta Levin

Hand sewn book. The caterpillar stitch and the coptic stitch were used to construct this book. The covers are made of handmade and printed paper from India. The thread is Irish and the closure is stone.

Running Water

Roberta Levin

Machine pieced and quilted. Although the fabrics are busy, I find the vertical strips to be calming. I pieced and quilted this work.

Matt’s Quilt

Roberta Levin

This quilt was made for my son to honor his 18th birthday. There are two special squares which reflect his scholastic interests and accomplishments.

Happy

Roberta Levin

Machine pieced and longarm quilted by me. This quilt hangs on my bedroom wall and was made in the colors of my bed quilt. Originally named “My Bed Quilt’s Quilt” I changed the name when I opened my eyes the first morning after it was hung and “Happy” aprang to mind.

Moonrise Kingdom

Roberta Levin

Machine pieced and longarm quilted by me. This quilt was made using a traditional block – Drunkard’s Path – in a modern setting.

Transformation in Deep Plum and Orange

Roberta Levin

Piecing, pieced back, long arm quilted. The kaleidoscopic hexagons were created by cutting six identical areas of the fabric (as seen on the center back of the quilt) into triangles. I pieced the front and back, then quilted it with a longarm machine.

Vase in a Window with Birds

Roberta Levin

Pieced, beaded and long arm quilted by me. This piece contains many techniques – piecing, beading, fusible applique and long arm quilting. Thanks to Robbi Joy Eklow for the pattern for the vase.

30 Days Hath Sudoku, November 2005 Obsession

Roberta Levin

Appliqué-fused 2,430 fabric squares embellished with satin ribbon. Hand guided long arm quilting. Each of the 30 blocks of this quilt represent one Sudoku puzzle. I worked the Tribune’s daily puzzle each day for a month, then substituted one fabric for each number 1 – 9.

My Bed is in a Garden, A Garden is on my Bed

Roberta Levin

Fussy cut piecing; fused and turned appliqué. Machine embellished appliqué. Long arm quilted, hand guided. Much like a garden, the design of this quilt grew organically. An earlier simple design ended up as a more complex quilt.
