Dreaming of Japan

Roberta Levin

IQI I pieced and quilted this by machine. Nippori Textile Town in Tokyo is home to over 100 fabric shops. Easily overwhelmed, I focused on finding fabrics to make a new quilt for my bed. The print border fabric, with its modern representation of traditional Japanese textile techniques such as shibori and ikat, and its lovely colors caught my eye. I purchased this fabric and more, then blended in pieces from my collection back home to make a bedcovering that is more than a blanket. In it, is woven the memory of part of the first day of a phenomenal journey to a country whose history and respect for textiles and the people who work with them is beyond anything that can ever be imagined here in the United States.
