Easter Morning 2020

Nona C Flores

Machine pieced, raw-edge fused applique,  long arm quilted. I completed this quilt top on Easter morning 2020. The design is “Towards the Sun” by Robin Pickens. Sue DiVarco designed and completed the longarm quilting.

I See The Moon and the Moon Sees Me

Nona C Flores

Rubbings and stencilled images using ShivaPaintstiks; machine quilted. Swarovskicrystal embellishments. I did most of the center panel during an on-line class with Shelly Stokes on Paintstiktechniques.

Japan 1: Steps

Nona C Flores

Machine pieced and machine quilted. This is the first of 3 planned quilts using Japanese or Japanese-inspired fabric and traditional Western blocks. The quilting is by Sue DiVarco.

Carnivorous Leaf

Nona C Flores

A beautiful but lethal relative to the Venus flytrap–is it a prehistoric precursor (when bigger was better) or a genetically altered escapee from a laboratory?

Bird Nest–A Room with a View

Nona C Flores

A bird with bling deserves a ritzy nest with great views from all the rooms of her predator-free surroundings. This shape reminded me of woven bird nests that I saw in the Amazon that hung from branches looking like shoulder bags that could accommodate a coconut or a bowling ball.

March Madness

Nona C Flores

IQI Embroidery, bead embroidery, machine quilting. My family loves rabbits and all the bunnies on this piece are “mad as a March hare”. This piece was completed for a class led by Lisa Binkley.

Homage to Giverny

Nona C Flores

Fused appliqué, inkjet-printed photos on cotton and silk, TAP transfer of text, long-arm quilting. I have had the pleasure of visiting Claude Monet’s home and gardens at Giverny during different seasons, and have always found it enchanting, especially the Waterlily Pond. The long-arm quilting and binding was done by Sue DiVarco.

Spring Bouquet

Nona C Flores

Pre-cut fusible-backed appliqué, topstitched in black thread, long-arm quilting. I have long admired the appliquéd Baltimore Album quilts and was immediately drawn to this Edyta Sitar design. The black top-stitching was meant to look like pen-and-ink embellishment. Sue DiVarco did the beautiful long-arm quilting background.

Butterfly Garden

Nona C Flores

IQI Pieced, fused applique, stencil with PaintStik, bead embroidery, image transfer with inkjet printer, machine quilted. Getting the butterfly to float over the surface of this piece was the easiest part of construction. The photos were all taken at the Chicago Botanic Garden.
