Ascending into LightCathy Mendola
Discharged cotton & velvet; hand dyed silks; commercial batik; photos printed on fabrics; machine embroidered. This piece came about after taking photos of angel statues in a cemetery. I manipulated the photos in Photoshop before printing on silk organza & cotton, then layered them on the quilt.
Earth AngelCathy Mendola
Hand painted cotton; hand dyed silks; hand dyed cheesecloth; machine embroidered. This piece began with a sketch of a face I did on paper then scanned & printed on cotton. Then I hand painted the cotton fabric with acrylic paint & pastels.
Meditation in PurpleCathy Mendola
beaded, machine pieced, fused, machine embroidered, stapled to canvas frame & mounted in a floating frame I started the beaded centerpiece in order to practice beading. I became ‘hooked’ on the calming, repetitive motion of beading. To me it’s like meditation. The remaining quilted portion just grew as I continued to ‘meditate’ on this piece!

Discharged black cotton fabrics & velvet; Kakishibu dyed fabric that was stamped with ink & commercial fabrics; fused; machine quilted. Lunar TideCathy Mendola
Rust dyed fabric; discharged black fabric that was overprinted with vat dyes & commercial fabrics. Fused & machine quilted. The moon plays a strong role in controlling the tides. I imagine it also has an effect on the life cycle & spawning of fish. While playing with these fabrics I felt like these went togetherContinue reading “Lunar Tide

The Untamed LandscapeCathy Mendola
Chinese paint stone & petrified palm wood cabochons, beaded & attached to a deer antler. Hangs from a leather necklace. I found these cabochons on Etsy & fell in love with the Chinese painted stone. It really looks as though someone painted a landscape. I hope I have done it justice.
