So Many Fish

Myra Janus

Machine pieced and quilted. In 2014 my husband and I went to Alaska to visit my sister who lives in Anchorage. When traveling, I love to visit quilt shops and purchased the fish themed print fabric used in this quilt. This spent a few years in my stash. Spring

Alice Jenks

Machine quilting and fused applique. Started in the 2022 NSNG Summer Seminar with Jane Sassaman, this original design features my favorite flowers, pansies. And some small flowers that were growing outside the seminar venue in Buffalo Grove. I fused, appliqued and machine quilted the flowers and greenery.

Shades of Goth

Valerie Koppenhaver

Machine stitched, machine quilted. This piece is the result from a NSNG Summer Seminar class on kaleidoscope quilting taught by our own Edrene Heill. Cutting and assembly takes advantage of bilaterally symmetrical fabric fused to 45 degree triangular stabilizer, which is then stitched together to make a circle.

Seagull

Valerie Koppenhaver

Machine stitched applique, details added in Inktense pencil. This pillow was made for a friend after taking an NSNG class with Velda Newman. It “aged” for quite awhile while I was deciding to be brave enough to add shading and details with Inktense pencils. Enlarged a random seagull pic from the internet.

Snails Galore

Valerie Koppenhaver

Machine embroidery, free motion stitching. The large snail and mushroom are stitched by printing on water soluble stabilizer, then machine stitiching on the lines while the stabilizer floats above the fabric. After everything is stitched, the water soluble stabilizer is dissolved and the stitches are left behind, in the fabric.

Garden Blooms

Pat Kroth

Hand-dyed, cut torn fabrics, improv composition. Machine stitched. The garden in my mind has no weeds, mosquitos, or lack of water, and is always in bloom.

Vital Spark

Pat Kroth

Hand-dyed and commercial fabrics, applique. Improv composition, machine stitched. From the smallest spark, atom or seed incredible things develop and grow: mighty oaks, the human body…the entire universe.

Random Sparks

Pat Kroth

Hand-dyed and commercial fabrics. Heat bonded applique, improv composition, machine stitched. The power of electricity provides comfort and convenience. Improv jazz adds flavor and unpredictablilty.

Wild Oaks

Pat Kroth

Hand-dyed, sun-printed fabrics, heat bonded applique, machine stitched. The colors and textures of leaves can be real or imagined.

Blue Notes

Pat Kroth

Hand-dyed, commercial and recycled fabrics, over-dyed clothing, improv composition, Machine stitched. Blue notes, improv jazz music, inspire me while I work.

Colorful Crotons

Ronna Leibach

Fused cotton fabric, string, embellishments, free motion quilting. This project was inspired by a workshop with Rosalie Dace to try to use new materials, new ideas in our work. The colors of the croton plants are bright and whimsical. Melody Johnson’s use of color and shape was also inspiring.

Midcentury Modern Meets 21st Century Improv

Ronna Leibach

Wedge piecing and circles from class with Marge Tucker. Machine quilted. The mid-century modern colors and patterns inspired me to make this quilt during a workshop with Marge Tucker. The improv style and quilt blocks help to modernize the colors. Wedge blocks – Marge Tucker method. Design original.

Beaded Blackbird

Lezlie Lenz

Hand beaded (seed, crow, assorted) on felt. This piece was created for the corvinus prophecy show at Robin Rios 4 Art Gallery. The complex symbolism of raven and crow has connected the material world with the world of spirits for 100s of years. Lezlie Lenz original.

My Angel

Lezlie Lenz

Original designed needlepoint canvas with multiple stitches, wool. I was able to needlepoint my signature angel on an Amtrak trip to the West Coast (Portland, OR). Original needlepoint on canvas by me

Moon in My House

Lezlie Lenz

Mixed media collage with Prismacolor pencils and fabric border. I love this piece of fabric shaped like a house so I made a collage landscape with angel figure next to it. Original art by Lezlie Lenz.

Cat Attack

Lezlie Lenz

Mixed media collage and watercolor. Quilt fabric (fabric borders from Nona), glued borders. In 2021 we adopted 2 kittens from Orphans of the Storm. They were wild and crazy*. This collage is about “Gracie Gravy”, my cat. Original Lezlie Lenz.
