Alabama Chanin Do-OverValerie Koppenhaver
Dip dying, hand-stitching, fabric paint. This dress, purchased off the internet, featured an electric yellow skirt that was terrible. I dip-dyed the skirt part ONLY and embellished the hem and shoulders with Alabama Chanin techniques inspired from NSNG’s class with our own Bill Keller, using a variety of black and white knits.
Ice-Dyed ChromaticValerie Koppenhaver
Ice dying, sewing, machine embroidery 100% cotton sweatshirt fabric was ice-dyed with fiber reactive dyes. Using a freepattern available at Mood Fabrics website, the fabric was converted to wearable art! Machine embroidered leaves that hide in the swatches of color were added for textural interest.

Short CircuitPat Kroth
Hand-dyed and commercial fabric, improvisational composition, machine stitched. Working in a fairly improvisational manner, I cut or tear fabric, stitch and celebrate the energy of color and texture.
Source MaterialPat Kroth
Hand-dyed and commercial fabrics. Improvisational composition, machine stitched. I like to reclaim and repurpose cast-off materials. The inspiration for this piece came from my stash of tiny bits. Hence the title Source Material. The commercial upholstery backing pays homage to textile workers.

Winter: DurationJana Vander Lee

View From Above – Home Sweet HomeRonna Leibach
Fused and pieced on crinoline, enhanced by machine quilting and luminere paint. Cotton, silk and organza. This was a project from Valerie Goodwin’s class – Favorite Places. Valerie inspired us to use architectural maps and an “aerial” perspective. My home is on the right – the golf course out my window.
Jumping off Rock, North CarolinaRonna Leibach
Fused with Steam-a-Seam II. Cotton fabric fused to fabric sandwich. Free-motion quilting over design. After visiting Laurel, NC (near Hendersonville), the beauty of the Smokies and Blue Ridge mountains are inspiring. The protective fencing was art work itself – a sculpture of the mountains.
Moon Over Midnight GardenRonna Leibach
Printed fabric, beading over Veltex. Vintage buttons. This was from a beading class taught by Lisa Binkley. The beading was challengingand the “moon” is a vintage button from my mother.
