The design is Blooming Nine Patch, I started it several years ago and just recently completed it. I bought it as a kit at a store now closed: Quiltology. Long-arm quilting by Material Girl in Crystal Lake. This is an improv quilt that represents my feelings about Covid. The technique was taught by Cindy Grisdela at an NSNG workshop.
Stitching through Rust is a ChallengeBeth Polonsky
Rust dyed fabric, shiva stick stencil, hand stitched. Inspired and created in a guild class with Heidi Parks. Excited to have been successful at turn under applique.
Dancing SquaresStaci Raymond
Machine piecing, hand tied, hand beading, hand sewn yarn edge. I enjoy the unbalanced feel of Dancing Squares with its unexpected red steps, turtles, frogs and beading.
I Miss…Staci Raymond
Machine pieced and hand tied. Quilting for me is like putting a puzzle together. I find pieces that fit and match as I go, not having to follow a specific pattern. It’s my form of meditation and the vibrant colors make me happy.
Book QuiltStaci Raymond
Machine piecing and hand quilting. I like the idea of re-purposing fabrics. I was given all of these scraps from a woman who made fabric covered books. There are so many things to discover in this colorful creation.
Scrap Quilt IIStaci Raymond
Machine pieced and hand quilted. I am very process oriented and don’t have the end result in mind when I work. I like the random haphazardness of each square with the grid structure creating small windows or vignette.
Dinosaurs and Bricks IStaci Raymond
Machine pieced, hand quilted, and hand beading on the surface. Incorporated parts of a found quilt. Dinosaurs and Bricks are a very odd combination that I wanted to explore. The dancing shrimp make it even more fun, but the surface beading was certainly a labor of love.
Untitled IIIStaci Raymond
Machine piecing and hand tied. Untitled III was inspired by my study of African American strip quilts. I enjoyed using a wide range of fabrics including clothing scraps.
