Pieced by Laurie Gorton, Overland Park, KS. Machine quilted by Peggy Skaith, Overland Park, KS. Harriet Bertsche taught her Stained Glass Slash N Dash quilting technique at the 2011 IQI Quilt-In. Over the past few years, I bought a number of oriental-style prints, and this quilt design proved the perfect way to use them. The inner 12 blocks were completed during the Quilt-In. Although Eastern design characterizes the prints, the fabrics all come from Western sources, so this becomes a Western view of the Orient. The strips that make up the backing were deliberately cut to mimic the 13 to 14 inch width of traditional Japanese textiles.
