The monkey quilt combines memories from both my husband’s and my younger years.
I drafted a pattern of my childhood stuffed monkey in a local drawing class, with friends. I then quilted monkey, while also including small salvaged pieces from my husband’s 1950s baby quilt into the monkey’s background vortex. The vortex symbolizes the passage of time. Embroidery on the monkey looks back to 1960s sewing cards. The vortex quilting concept was drawn from Christina Cameli’s book about wedge quilts.
