Mom’s Merry & Bright

Mario Alonso

Machine pieced and quilted by me. I made this quilt with mom’s help. During what I knew would be her last visit to Chicago, we sat down at the dining room table and I gave her a stack of fat quarters that I bought for a Christmas quilt. I asked her to pick out the ones she liked. She hesitated and said she was a Cross Stitcher and didn’t want to ruin my quilt. But she went ahead and picked out the fabrics. I cut them to size and she arranged them how she wanted me to sew them. She only got to see pictures of the top and not the final quilt. Mom made hundreds of Cross Stitch projects for friends and family. I am nowhere near a quarter of that. The pieced back is warm and cozy. Thanks Mom for all your help and encouragement!
