Community Jigsaw

Lonnie Dunlap

Machine pieced; machine quilted. I have been a member of Northwestern University Circle Piecemakers for over 10 years. Our group meets monthly to work on quilts which we donate to local organizations, such as, The Harbour, Housing Options in Evanston, Evanston/North Shore YWCA, and Northwestern Settlement House families. When planning for these three quilts, our group agreed we were ready for a bright palette. Members brought strips in bright colors. Of course, there’s always a sense of excitement in seeing what stashes will yield. The strips were cut into puzzle pieces and the fun began. Putting together the blocks is community building at its best. The piecing was done at our next meeting and we always share in a feeling of accomplishment when our quilts are completed.
