For my mathematically inclined husband, I chose this Penrose inspired design. While not a strict Penrose tiling, which incorporates only two shapes, it utilizes Penrose shapes and characteristic five fold rotational symmetry.
Hand piecing allowed for stitching on flights, in a backyard in Normandy, overlooking the Tetons, and on a terrace with views of Catalina Island. The quilt brings to mind these sojourns, which enhances its meaning.
