This piece was made in trade for one of my friend’s wonderful, whimsical paper-cut collages. She chose the colors “muted greens and purples” and told me she wanted something that “looked interesting.” I started with a fully mapped out design, a rarity for me. And then I didn’t like it once it was on the design wall. So I re-pieced, turned blocks, stared at it, changed fabrics, stared at it, and re-pieced again until it looked right to me.
