Wrinkles mark time, A tear marks emotion. Look deeply. She Is the green of the fields and the forest- A songbird.. Look deeply. She is the blue that calms, Bright orange and red bringing passion. A myriad of color Behind her eyes. Suburban Chicago based fabric artist, Mary Beth Michaels combines her traditional sewing and quilting techniques with a fine arts background, She often authors short poems to capture the essence of her artwork. This piece is a self-portrait and presents three pairs of eyes. Mary Beth utilizes simple shapes and rich colors and investigates the patterns and textures of fabric. A sense of movement is created through her stitch work. “Sometimes I love the back of the quilt as much as the front”.
