Abstract Illusion

Valerie Rodelli

Original design – abstracting from picture I took. Done with fabric, sheers & thread work (quilting). This is abstraction, taking 3 shapes from a photo and making a composition. The original photo & my composition have little resemblence.

Baskets Galore

Valerie Rodelli

Block piecing with batik fabrics. Machine quilted on a longarm by longarm quilter Barbara Deletzke. This quilt was an exchange block with 2 friends. It is finally quilted & finished after many years.

Mixed-Media Book

Valerie Rodelli

Painting, printing, embossing, stitching and all kinds of mixed-media techniques. Hand & machine techniques. A first try at bookmaking. The ideas for the pages were inspired by a class at a CREATE retreat.

Colour and Light I

Valerie Rodelli

Guatemalan & American fabrics, machine quilted and pieced. This piece shows color and design elements. Note secondary designs and depth created by ombre and striped materials. Loosing woven fabrics created a “piecing challenge.”

Pandemic Evolution

Valerie Rodelli

This piece began with improvisational piecing towards the beginning of the pandemic – things were “calm”. Then things became “Chaotic”. Finally many things about society were “Fractured”. These words are the names of individual pieces in this triptich. (Improvisationally pieced, sashiko stitched, machine quilted.)

Lifesaver (Mariner’s Compass)

Valerie Rodelli

Drafted the compass pattern, paper pieced, quilted on a domestic sewing machine. This piece was begun in a class with Kris Lyn Kirsch about 10 years ago. I finished the paper piecing & quilted it over this 2013 summer.
