A combination of hand embroidery and appliques. Two primary techniques; fabric circles and french knots. Inspired by David Hockney’s “The Arrival of Spring, Normandy” exhibition. An image largely created with circles and french knots.
oleus leaves using Fosshape, paint, heat and stitching. Inspired by Barbara Schneider’s “Creativity through Nature” workshop. A collection of various coleus leaves using Fosshape material that is painted and stitched.
Shibori dyed fabric with Cherrywood solids, hand stitched sashiko, machine pieced and quilted. I dyed the fabric in a workshop with Maggie Weiss. The blocks are log cabins with large “hearths” that feature the designs in the fabric. I added the calming sashiko blocks to counter the busyness of the shibori cabins.
Machine appliqued and quilted. One of my favorite early Illinois native wildflowers, Wild Geranium blooms in May. This quilt was created using techniques taught by Jane Sassaman.
