Sunrise over Lake Michigan

Diane Greening

Machine pieced, hand quilted. I started this quilt around 2003 when I lived in Barrington. I finished the piecing in California and named it ‘Sunset over the Pacific’ but it ended up in my UFO pile. Another move, the quilt came out again for quilting and a return to its original name.

Burney Falls

Diane Greening

Pieced, fused, appliqued and painted; couched trims. Burney Falls State Park is a little jewel of a park in Northern California, a long way from any freeway.

Dancing Reds

Caryl Rae Hancock

Hand marbled and plain wools; serger construction. All the books on marbling say that you can’t marble wool – I figured it out.

Spring

Caryl Rae Hancock

Hand-marbled polished cotton, hand-made bias tape, machine-sewn, hand-made frogs, poly lining. It was great fun working out the marbled “puzzle” pieces. Jacket size M.

Jared

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Machine pieced and quilted on home sewing machine. This was changed from a large quilt pattern. When I tired of making blocks I decided 2 small quilts would do. This and the companion demonstrate how a different color works with the same block.

Garden Pathways

Marcia Lee Hartnell

3D flowers, yo-yo’s, confetti trees – machine embellished. Texture Magic grass. A combination of techniques were used. The 3D flowers were made using a Kanzashi flower maker.

Fuzzy

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Machine stitching, hand embroidery, fused applique. The upholstery sample background is embellished hand and machine stitching. The cat has hand embroidery embellishment.

Friends

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Hand dyed fabric, fused applique, hand and machine embroidery. The background fabric was made in an NSNG class a few years ago. It lent itself to the addition of the cats and other fused elements.

Iris

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Machine applique, hand embroidery. Machine quilted. These blocks were donated to the guild. I assembled and quilted them.

Felt Flowers

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Hand dyed silk scarf, nuno felted and embellished with wool felt. Hand made flowers and needle felted birds. This was derived from an NSNG workshop where the background was created. The birds technique was learned from a guild member.

Orange Floral

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Hand felted from wool roving. Wool shrinks as you work and manipulate it. The flowers are needle felted to the fiber base. Made in a class at NSNG with Cynthia Boudreau.

Red Tree

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Reverse appliqué and machine embellished – free motion. Made in a class at NSNG. Reverse appliqué embellished with free motion machine embroidery.

Harvest Moon

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Reverse applique, fused fabric, confetti and free motion quilting. Inspired by a class with Rosalie Dace at NSNG. The reverse applique technique was done in layers. Embellished with fused fabric confetti and over-stitched.

Leaves

Marcia Lee Hartnell

Cut out appliqué, machine embroidered leaves. This piece reflects many techniques to feature machine embroidered leaves that were appliqued to background.
