Stormy

Shelley Brucar

Raw-edge applique. Machine stitching. Inspiration for “Stormy” came from my memories of beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. I wanted to show a threatening sky contrasting with the rich colors cast by the setting sun. When this piece is exhibited at a solo show, several viewers described it as flowing lava from a volcano. I am endlessly intrigued with how abstract art can be interpreted so differently depending on the viewer’s unique experiences.
