Pinwheel Hell

Amy Spungen

Machine pieced on a vintage Sears Featherweight and quilted on a Bernina 770 QE.

I started this quilt in 2014. By the time I finished it nine years later, I had named it Pinwheel Hell. The tiny nine-patch squares were supposed to go together nicely…but somehow didn’t always. I had to put it away many times to concentrate on other projects and clear my brain. If you like a challenge, see if you can find the six mistake blocks: four background mess-ups and two pinwheels. (And I’m not talking about seams that don’t meet neatly or where I had to square up the design by cutting into the pinwheel points around the edge, argh).

(Though I named my quilt Pinwheel Hell, the pattern I bought from Primitive Gatherings is titled “Among Friends”. And, I did much of the piecing among my quilting friends.)
