The challenge to depict earth, air, fire and water immediately brought an erupting Hawaiian volcano to mind: where else are all four present at once? The quilt’s title comes form the Hawaiian goddesses; Fire (Pele), Natture/Earth (Papa), Sea (Namaka) and the god of Wind (Paka’a).
