A Japanese Inspiration

Polymer clay tube created with Mokume Gane technique. Kumihimo (Japanese braiding with a special device) strand was woven with a variegated thread in clear glass beads. Mokume Gane is a technique that was used by Japanese metalsmiths to imitae woodgrain. It first came to the attention of polymer clay artists in Nan Roche’s book “The New Clay” in 1992. Since then many polymer artists have used variations of it. I created this polymer tube and then attached it to a cord made of beads and ribbons in a Kumihimo braid (another Japanese technique made with a special device).
