Serendipity

Shelley Brucar

Hand woven, pulled warp threads, hand dyed cotton and silk fabric strips, needle-felting, fabric stiffening

YoSedona

Shelley Brucar

Hand-dyed & painted fabric, mixed media techniques with textiles & acrylic medium. YoSedona combines two of my favorite places. The view shows Vernal Falls, Yosemite National Park among the stunning red rocks of Sedona. I used textiles and acrylic medium to achieve the texture of the rocks and water.

Aspen Grove

Shelley Brucar

Hand-dyed & painted fabric, mixed media techniques with textiles & acrylic medium. Aspen Grove was inspired by an aspen grove in Flagstaff, AZ in the fall. Seeing this made me understand, for the first time, the name Quaking Aspens! I used textiles and acrylic medium to achieve the texture of the landscape.

Misty Morning

Shelley Brucar

Hand-dyed & painted fabric, mixed media techniques with textiles & acrylic medium, screen printing. Misty Morning was inspired by my fascination with fog and mist. It is eerie and beautiful at the same time when a scene is partially hidden. I used textiles and acrylic medium to achieve the texture of the landscape.

While There is Still Time

Shelley Brucar

Hand-dyed and screened fabric, machine stitched. One of several pieces that express my concern about the effects of global warming on beautiful coral reefs. You can see the beginnings of bleaching in a few places in this representation.

Jerome Sunset

Shelley Brucar

Thread painting. A photo taken by my husband, Wayne Brucar, in the artist town of Jerome, AZ inspired this piece named Jerome Sunset. It was a brilliantly colored sunset with barren trees in the foreground. Design Source – Original

Hide and Seek

Shelley Brucar

Hand-dyed fabric, fused and raw-edge applique, needle-felting, machine stitching. Hide and Seek started as a winter study looking at the long shadows of trees at dusk. With the addition of the Canadian Geese, it became a fun and frivolous game of hide and seek. Design Source – Original

Cranes Dancing

Shelley Brucar

Watching the Sandhill Cranes walking gracefully through the wetlands near my home sometimes feels like watching a dance. I wanted to show these beautiful creatures in fabric, and I loved watching them grow and develop. (Hand-dyed fabric, screening and other surface design.)

Horse with No Mane

Penny Burns

This piece was made in a class with artist Hillary Waters Fayle. (Hand embroidery on a Magnolia leaf using cotton embroidery floss.)
