Taupe TrianglesAmy Spungen
I started this quilt on an informal retreat with some of my quilting friends, and every time I look at it I am reminded of what fun we had when we got together.
Underground BluesAmy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted. A queen-size quilt is challenging to quilt on my little Bernina! I made this to go in my daughter Hannah’s bedroom and next on my list are a couple of matching pillows.
DiamondsAmy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted. Owned by Holly and Paul Gladd of Potomac, Maryland I designed this quilt using scraps from another project. They appear there as diamond shapes. All the other material came from my fabric stash.
X-BoxAmy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted using primarily batik fabrics. This basket weave pattern had tricky “L” seams and it took me years (3) to finish because I kept putting it down!
BelovedAmy Spungen
I made this silk chuppah (Jewish wedding canopy) for my daughter Hannah’s wedding last May. The design incorporates pieces of both my wedding dress and Hannah’s (she didn’t want a train). (Machine pieced and stitched. Silk, including wedding dress remnants.)
FloatersAmy Spungen
I made this quilt for my daughter Naomi. I began it at a workshop taught by Phyllis Fay. (Machine pieced and stitched cotton.)
Liberated StarsAmy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted. In Gwen Marstan’s book “Liberated Quiltmaking II”, the patterns and “non-rules” appealed to me. I had a lot of fun making this quilt. Thanks, Gwen!
Prairie StarAmy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted. This quilt is based on the Prairie Star pattern designed by Judy Niemeyer. I used batik fabrics from my stash.
Folk Flowers 2Amy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted; reverse machine applique. I love Anna Maria Horner’s Folk Flower pattern, and this is my second quilt using it. The reverse machine applique technique works really well here and is a good skill to have in general. I originally made this quilt to barter for pottery but decided to keep it.Continue reading “Folk Flowers 2

Pinwheel HellAmy Spungen
Machine pieced on a vintage Sears Featherweight and quilted on a Bernina 770 QE. I started this quilt in 2014. By the time I finished it nine years later, I had named it Pinwheel Hell. The tiny nine-patch squares were supposed to go together nicely…but somehow didn’t always. I had to put it away manyContinue reading “Pinwheel Hell

GaviAmy Spungen
This quilted portrait of my horse, Gavi, started with a photo I traced onto freezer paper. I then fused many pieces of fabric to fill in the portrait, finishing with an embroidered mane. The ice drops on his whiskers are made of white fabric paint. Machine quilted.
TobyAmy Spungen
This is a quilt collage portrait of Toby, my daughter Hannah and son-in-law Tim’s Goldendoodle. It started as an enlarged photograph traced onto freezer paper. I then filled in the portrait with fused cotton fabric pieces before quilting it. Can you spot the photographer in Toby’s eye?
Big RubyAmy Spungen
This is a portrait of Ruby, my friend Diane’s beloved pet rabbit. This quilt collage started as an enlarged photograph traced onto freezer paper. I then filled in the portrait with fused cotton fabric pieces before quilting it. The title is Big Ruby, because I also made a Little Ruby portrait. 🙂
Bargello Tie QuiltAmy Spungen
Machine pieced and quilted. I made this bargello quilt out of old ties. Be sure to look on the other side for a surprise.
