But here’s what really happened…

This was my first, start to finish, everything done myself, quilt. I had many first and learned so very much through out this process. I’m so glad I took on this challenge! The closer you look, the more you’ll see.

Not So Easy Pieces

Beth Polonsky

Machine pieced & machine quilted. I took a class with Margaret Miller. I wasn’t real fond of the colors and the “calico” prints. So after many many years I decided to “round robin” in batiks. I love the transition from old fabrics to new.

Circles in My Mind

Beth Polonsky

Fused, raw edge applique, embroidery, bead embroidery. This piece was created in an NSNG class with Melody Johnson. The embellishments were taught in an NSNG class with Lisa Binkley.

Out of My Comfort Zone

Beth Polonsky

Cavandoli macramé and bead weaving. I was working out of my “color” zone and I created a spiral necklace to replace the cord in the supplied materials.

North & Halsted

Beth Polonsky

Machine pieced, machine quilted. My nephew Greg bought his first home and he wanted a black & white quilt. I needed to add a little color (artistic license).

Bumps

Beth Polonsky

Raw edge appliqué, machine quilted. A NSNG Summer Seminar with Melody Johnson inspired me to design this piece.

A Tree Grows in Indy

Beth Polonsky

Raw edge appliqué, machine quilted. I took a value class with Katie Pasquini in Indianapolis as it was easier to get to than New Mexico.

Dye-ing for Flowers

Beth Polonsky

Hand dyed cotton and rayon, commercial fabric, machine pieced and quilted, hand beading. These fabric squares were hand dyed with plant and bug material during a 4-week class at the Botanic Garden. Dyes came from indigo, logwood, madder and weld as well as cochineal, a bug found in the desert.

The fabrics and unusual combinations appealed to me. I designed it to be used as a wall hanging or a table runner.Continue reading “Old Timer

On the Road to Paducah

Marilyn Pospishil

Totally hand done, no machine work on it at all. Hand pieced & hand quilted. I found this spider fabric that I loved. I designed the quilt to accent that fabric. I used the back of my friend’s seat on the bus trip to Paducah as a design wall. Hence

Fractured Beauty

Marilyn Pospishil

Machine pieced, hand quilted. I wanted to do something different with this Stephanie Brandenberg panel, so I just randomly cut it up. I used a special metallic thread on the flower to give it some sparkle.

Repetitive Steps

Marilyn Pospishil

Machine & hand pieced, hand quilted. My friend gave me a charm pack of batiks from the Fair Trader. I wanted to emphasize the color and African fabrics but keep the design simple. This is what evolved.
