Red White and Black Squared

Patricia Niffenegger

The maker of the 8 red-framed small squares is unknown. The squares appeared in my stash and play nicely with other black/white fabrics I found. Long arm quilter: Quilter’s Heaven quilt shop, Northbrook, IL

Declaration of Intent

Patricia Tamandl Niffenegger

Fused, machine pieced, machine quilted. Although Emile Zola (1840-1902) was a French novelist, not a visual artist, I found this quote inspirational in making my textile pieces. My work reflects a love of bright, saturated colors, words as part of the design and a mix of fabric and techniques.

Ribbon as Candy

Pat Niffenegger

NSNG Ribbon, ultrasuede, woven pillow cover, sequins and beads: handstitched and machine stitched on canvas. Quote: “Ribbon is the candy of the textile world”. Enroute to a quilting retreat in southern Illinois, I spotted an antique shop with everything 50% off. Who could resist that? Basement Boys (1)

Cara novy-Bennewitz

Machine pieced & quilted. First in a series of three quilts fro what I call the “basement boys” – my son’s friends who hang out every weekend. My philosophy is sleep in style!

Basement Boys 3

Cara novy-Bennewitz

Machine pieced & quilted. Last in the series of quilts to be used in the basement for sleepovers. Started as a different pattern – hated it – cut it up – and voila!

Bouquet From Amelia’s Garden

Rita O'Connor

Hand appliqued, hand quilted, machine pieced. This is my first appliqued quilt. It’s the result of a block-of-the-month class sponsored by Quilter’s Heaven and taught by Joanne Parks.

Spring Has Sprung in Baltimore

Rita O'Connor

Hand pieced by Rita O’Connor, machine quilted by Donna Derstadt. Begun as a block-of-the-month class taught by Joanne Parks. Center medallion adapted by Rita from a single block pattern. Border design by Rita and her daughter, Eileen Heins. Machine quilting by Donna Derstadt.

Curved Log Cabin #3

Maureen O'Connor

Technique This last version of the same pattern is scrap for both sides. Lights for the fat log, and darks for the skinny logs. The size of the logs is the same as #1 which is the way the pattern is written.

Roseville Beauties

Rita O'Connor

Hand appliqued, embroidery, machine pieced, machine quilted. The pattern for this wall hanging was designed by Maggie Walker and features Roseville Pottery and beautiful flowers. Fabrics for five blocks came from Maggie’s kit. I chose the rest. Quilting by Sue DiVarco. Design Source – Maggie Walker pattern.

Vera Ann

Katie Ordover

Machine pieced & longarm quilted. I made this quilt for my cousin, Vera Ann, who was named after her dear great grandmother. It is based on the “Oops a Daisy” pattern with original appliqué design. I always add a bit of black to my baby quilts for sophistication.

McKenzie Kay

Katie Ordover

Machine pieced. Longarm quilted by Sally Evanshank, Windy City Quilting. I like to use black in baby quilts for an element of sophistication.

Blue Garden

Katie Ordover

Machine pieced; machine quilted. All quilters have in their fabric stash prints they love but are difficult to incorporate into a piece. I was inspired by a pattern by Heather Mulder Peterson and finally able to use some of this crazy floral print.
